What Really Goes On At Our Scrap Yard

We're nothing fancy, just an honest, proper service

Monday morning at Burnt Mills. Pete's just dropped his keys at our counter, pointing at his Renault sitting sadly in our yard. "Blown head gasket," he mutters. "Garage wants two grand to fix it."

We've been in our industry since the 80s here at Benfleet Scrap Co. Our Basildon yard on Harvey Road sees everything. Proper Essex motors, each with their own tale. Like that Transit van from Pitsea last week - more rust than metal, but the bloke had kept it running since '99.

Our scales don't lie

That's what I tell everyone who comes to us. We're weighing scrap all day, paying always the best possible price. None of that online rubbish where you get promised the earth. We're talking same day money, no messing about.

Over 40 years in the business

One of our workers who's been with us for years. Knows every car that comes through. "Saw three Focuses in one day," he told me. "All the same problem - electrical gone funny. Cheaper to scrap than sort it."

Busy times

The yard's is busy between 7:30am and 9am. Builders dropping metals, cars getting towed in, phones ringing. But we keep it moving. Got to - we've got over 40 years of reputation riding on it.

We don't just crush cars

Some people think we just crush cars. Wrong. Every vehicle that comes through our gates gets stripped properly. Good parts saved, metals sorted. Everything is done right, just like we've always done at each of our three depots: Basildon, Benfleet and Grays.

Recently a chap turned up with his Vauxhall, swearing it was dead. Our lads took one look - just a loose battery connection. Told him straight. That's how we do things here. Could've taken his car, but that's not us.

Paperwork is simple

V5C, proof of ID, job done. Been doing it this way since day dot. Just a good honest and professional service.

Seen some changes mind you. More hybrid cars lately. Different kettle of fish to work on. But we handle them just the same - proper recycling, everything done by the book.

Opening hours

We're shut Sundays. Always have been. Saturdays we close at 12. Rest of the week we're here till 5, rain or shine. Same faces, same yard, same honest work.
